A large number of UK affiliates (webmasters) have been contacted by the ICO (Information Commissioner's Office) threatening fines as high as £500,000 for failure to comply with the law. In particular they are targeting webmasters who do SMS and email spam where they are focusing on affiliates who haven't acquired proper permissions for user data.
A few webmasters are discussing their letters received at gpwa and it seems the information may have been passed on from Income Access to the ICO.
